meet our director
Mrs. Kristie Hunt has a bachelor’s degree from
North Georgia College in early childhood education, a master’s degree from Brenau University, and a specialist degree from Jacksonville State University. She also is a certified gifted teacher. Ms. Kristie, (as the preschool kids call her), is a native of Polk County and taught for over 30 years in the public school system. She took over as the director of the First Methodist Preschool a year after her retirement from the public school. |
A Message from the Director:
Early childhood education is such an important piece in building a solid foundation for higher learning and social interaction. “The foolish man built his house upon the sand, and the house came tumbling down, but the wise man built his house upon the rock and the house on the rock stood firm.”) Matthew 7:24-27) Every child needs a firm spiritual and academic foundation.
Our goal is to continue the foundation you have built at home emphasizing spiritual, intellectual, physical, and social growth based on solid biblical teachings. Our day is balanced between child- directed and teacher- directed activities. Our teachers make it their priority to create an environment where children have many choices and opportunities for creating, communication, and discovering. Most importantly, children will know they are loved by teachers and staff. Student will participate in weekly chapel services officiated by our pastor, Edward Murrey, and myself. There is something precious about worshiping through the eyes of a child. We also have weekly library story time in our “Little Bookworm Library” for the three- and four-year-old classes.
We know how important these early years are and we are here to provide you and your child the best early childhood education!

Student Curriculum:
Our day is balanced between child-directed and teacher-directed activities. Our teachers make it their priority to create an environment where children have many choices and opportunities for creating, communicating, and discovering. Written curriculum is based on early childhood development and developmentally appropriate skills. Seasonal units include a planned sequence of skills and concepts based on the age of the child. Teachers plan interdisciplinary units to foster all areas of growth. FUMP also incorporates Christian and biblical teachings that promote values and attitudes through example and direction.

Little Bookworm Library:
Ms. Barbara Seyler is the founder of our library and has built an awesome library for our students at FUMP all from donations from church members and our local community. Students visit the library once a week and participate in story time and check out books. Ms. Seyler’s son, Mr. Richard, volunteers each week as well. They make a dynamic duo in the operation of our Little Bookworm Library.

Students participate in weekly chapel service. Students participate in weekly Bible lessons and sing and dance to Christian songs. This is our favorite time of the week. There is something precious about worshipping through the eyes of a child.
